The girl who survived rabies is about 15 year old, Jeanna Giese heralded as the first person known to have survived the virus without receiving a preventative vaccine. Jeanna survived rabies thanks to an innovative and desperate treatment tried out on her by Dr. Rodney Willougby.

Pioneering surgeons have developed a way of putting patients into a state of “suspended animation.” By draining some of the blood from their body and cooling it until their heart stops, they induce clinical death. This gives them a window of opportunity to operate on the brain without massive blood loss.
